THE ORANGE BOOK LAUNCH

Speech by:
Adelaine Foo, Chief Executive Officer & Founder
The Otomotif College (TOC)

Yang Berhormat Datuk Ong Tee Keat, the Minister of Transport, our esteemed guests, friends from the automotive industry, members of the media, and of course staff and students of TOC - a very good afternoon and a very warm welcome to all of you to The Otomotif College.

It is especially heartwarming to have Yang Berhormat here today considering his extremely busy schedule. On behalf of TOC, our heartfelt thank you to you Yang Berhormat for making the time to grace our occasion this afternoon.

Ladies and gentlemen, THE ORANGE BOOK is a very special project for all of us at TOC. Especially true for THE ORANGE BOOK project team, though challenging, seeing the culmination of this project proves a rewarding experience for all of us. Running an automotive education institution makes me realize that safe driving requires some level of technical knowledge as well as an awareness of the various possibilities that may arise on the road. Personally, being a driver and having been faced with many of the scenarios that THE ORANGE BOOK highlights, I yearn for a single source of user friendly guidebook that incorporates local driving conditions and peculiarities that I could refer to for help.

In addition, as vehicle ownership continues to grow and as we at TOC promote automotive education, we also came to realize that a multitude of mishaps can happen every day to the average Malaysian motorist. However, it is unfortunate that only a scant number of our motorists know what to do when faced with such situations.

As a leading automotive education provider in the country, we see that there is an urgent need on our part at TOC to contribute towards something that we feel would have a sustainable, widespread, and a positive impact on Malaysian motorists. After spending a lot of time researching and seeking feedback from automotive experts, authorities such as the PDRM, dialogues with our faculty members and fact-finding with our very own TOC students, THE ORANGE BOOK was born.

THE ORANGE BOOK has been designed as an all-in-one guide, easy-to-carry and to-be-referred-to source of information for the everyday Malaysian motorists. This first edition marks the first of hopefully many editions to come, and is filled with information on how driving can be made safer, with fewer delays, with less probability of breakdowns and less chances of getting injured or involved in any inconvenient and unwanted situations.

Today, I am delighted to celebrate and share with all of you the discovery of a new source of automotive guide and assistance that we can all refer to. We feel that every motorist, male or female, should have a copy of THE ORANGE BOOK, the guide that every driver should have. Deliberately designed as a handy A5 size booklet, we recommend that THE ORANGE BOOK be kept in the glove compartments of all cars on Malaysian roads.

For that, I take this opportunity to thank PLUS Expressways for being the first GLC to adopt THE ORANGE BOOK as one of their Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. I believe the true benefits of CSR can only be garnered when all corporations join hands towards one vision of a great society. To PLUS – thank you once again for believing in us.

Ladies and gentlemen, The Otomotif College was set up with the vision of delivering world-class automotive education to Malaysian youth by preparing them for the vibrant automotive industry, especially pertinent today since Malaysia forms the largest passenger car market in South East Asia. We hope that with the launch of THE ORANGE BOOK, TOC will go beyond tertiary education by contributing and educating the general public about road safety, and by providing practical and useful knowledge on automobiles, all these towards playing a part in Malaysia’s thriving automotive industry.

I once again thank you all and Yang Berhormat for being with us today to commemorate this occasion and I sincerely look forward to your continuous support towards THE ORANGE BOOK
